Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.

It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview — to see if I’d mesh with their “special” clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That’s the definition of fitting in, right?

I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they… offered me the job?

It turns out this place isn’t a bar. It’s a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I’m exactly the kind of takes-no-shit bartender this guild needs, or there’s a good reason no one else wants to work here.

So what’s a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course — with a pay raise.

I received a free copy for an honest review.

I have been reading so many indies lately, and I am so glad to get to say that Three Mages and a Margarita was not a disappointment and were such a fun read for me. I loved the mages, the worldbuilding, and most of all, I love Tori so much.

I’m really surprised about this because I would think that at this point, I would be sick of bad-ass heroines narrations, but Tori was a huge reason why this story was so enjoyable despite not being the most original book. Tori’s attitude, stances, and her perspective of the world really bumped up the reading experience by at least one star, and the amazing action sequences, as well as the fast-paced storyline, also continued in the enjoyment I had while reading this book. This book was not hard to get into at all, so if you enjoy books that you don’t have to suffer for a while before finally enjoying, this is the book for you.

However, there are several holes in the story I would expect the author to elaborate on throughout the series. For example, the mysterious flyer she got from the street (from my reading experience) seems to be…note exactly a coincidence. I would be looking out for this in book two. Also, I will be really looking forward to seeing how Tori further adapts herself in the magic community, and how their relationship with the guys continues to evolve. I’m also EXTREMELY disappointed that this is not going to be a reverse harem series. The guys were amazing, and it was just such a missed opportunity *sigh*.

Well, this book was really enjoyable for me to read! Three Mages and a Margarita is definitely a book I would recommend if you’re looking for books purely for self-indulgence.

about the author

Annette Marie is the author of Amazon best-selling YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad) with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.
