Top 6 Fun and Relaxing Holiday Reads

Although a good fantasy book would be forever my first choice, sometimes our brain will scream a rest for a relaxing book from all the complicated world building, problems and cruel cliffhangers. So here are some of my favorite relaxing holiday reads, and I hope they could be yours too.

1. Glitter and Sparkle: A Sweet and Sparkly Romantic Comedy

By Shari L. Tapscott

This is a sweet and uncomplicated love story for a holiday when you’re all cuddled up in your bed and it’s raining outside. It’s about a high school girl going through her life as planned, and her her childhood brother’s friend Harrison came back and temporally lived in her and her families house before he found an apartment, and their multiple failed attempts at resisting each other. It’s a really cute HEA (happily ever after) story. Go check it out!

2. All I’ve ever Wanted

By Ann Huang

This may not be the greatest written book, since the writing itself was not the best, but the plot and the main story itself is pretty entertaining and relaxing. Throughout this book you’ll get to enjoy a pretty sweet hate love relationship, including some very sweet scenes that will (guarantee) make you smile and re-read a million times.

3. Happily Ever After: Companions to the Selections Series (The Selection Novella)

By Keira Cass

My Opinion:

Okay, before you decided I’ve made an mistake, you should know that after you’ve read the Selection Series, this can be a very relaxing book cause you don’t have to worry about problems in here while still enjoy Maxon and America’s happily ever after. After all, this book contains many sweet stories and extra scenes that was not included in other books in the series, which is really refreshing, and we can see what happens after the selection! So this is why I’m suggesting to you cause it’s good and relaxing, but, I really suggest you to read the other books in the series before you read this cause first, you would spoil for yourself and second, you won’t enjoy it as much as you would’ve if you have read the other books.

Synopsis:

Meet Prince Maxon before he fell in love with America, and a girl named Amberly before she became queen. See the Selection through the eyes of a guard who watched his first love drift away and a girl who fell for a boy who wasn’t the prince. This gorgeous collection features four novellas from the captivating world of Kiera Cass’s #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series—two of which appear here in print for the first time—as well as exclusive, never-before-seen bonus content.

This series companion is a must-have for any Selection fan, and includes:

  • The Prince
  • The Guard
  • The Queen (in print for the first time)
  • The Favorite (in print for the first time)
  • Exclusive new scenes from The Selection, The Elite, and The One
  • Introductions to each novella from Kiera Cass
  • A map of Illéa and other illustrations

4. Just the Sexiest Man Alive

By Julie James

Synopsis:

No woman could resist him—except the one he wanted most…

Cool, Calm, Collected…

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan. In the courtroom she never lets the opposition see her sweat. In her personal life, she never lets any man rattle her—not even her cheating ex-fiancé. So when she’s assigned to coach People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for his role in his next big legal thriller, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob’s charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

Confident, Famous, Irresistible…

Jason Andrews is used to having women fall at his feet. When Taylor Donovan gives him the cold shoulder, he’s thrown for a loop. She’s unlike any other woman he’s ever met: uninterested in the limelight, seemingly immune to his advances, and shockingly capable of saying no to him. She’s the perfect challenge. And the more she rejects him, the more he begins to realize she may just be his perfect match.

My Opinion:

This is a classic celeb-falling-for-only-girl-doesn’t-want story – which by the way, is my favorite!! Ahhhh~! Just thinking about that makes me squirm in my seats. I love those! The stories with this plot-line is always so cute and romantic. This book is actually pretty popular, and you probably already found this title quite familiar. So we’ve got this egotistical celeb hot guy that is used to getting every girl, and this beautiful girl that is the only person in the world not interested, and the story begins there. Shout out to anyone that love plot like this! Go check it out! Google it too, there’s free copies online or you could just read it online for free.

5. Rock and a Hard Place

By Angie Stanton

Synopsis:

One day while watching the Interstate exit for her dad’s long awaited return, Libby’s life is rocked when Peter Jamieson steps off his tour bus and into her life. After a couple chance meetings with Peter, Libby breaks away from her rule abiding behavior and her life changes course.

While Peter battles his family’s growing interference so he can spend time with Libby, she struggles with her eccentric aunt who turns more bizarre each day.

Their lives are torn apart when Peter’s family intrudes and Libby disappears. Peter’s desperate search for her comes up empty. Can they find their way back to each other while the world plots against them?

My Opinion:

This book is a classic celebrity-falls-in-love–with-a-normal-girl-who-don’t-know-who-they-are romance. With a simple Cinderella-like story, it’s a relaxing love story to fill our reading needs.

6. The House of Mango Street

By Sandra Cisneros

Synopsis:

Acclaimed by critics, beloved by readers of all ages, taught everywhere from inner-city grade schools to universities across the country, and translated all over the world, The House on Mango Street is the remarkable story of Esperanza Cordero.

Told in a series of vignettes – sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous – it is the story of a young Latina girl growing up in Chicago, inventing for herself who and what she will become. Few other books in our time have touched so many readers

My Opinion:

I might be the only one that has ever done this, but right now I’m suggesting a required reading book from my school. Now, the reason I say this is because normally, everyone hates their required reading materials from their schools, right? But some of the books are actually good, and The House of Mango Street is one of them. This is basically a collection of relaxing, interesting and entertaining short stories from her time, so we can take a peek into the picture of the past from her point of view. The reason I’m suggesting this is because not only this book is extremely relaxing to read, it’s also extremely entertaining and intresting. So go check it out, and who knows, you’ll really enjoy it as well!
