JORDAN

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go. He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.

I have to stop this. It can’t happen.

My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable. Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.
I am.

PIKE

I took her in, because I thought I was helping. As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.

But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.

And her boyfriend’s father.

Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

When Pike, Cole’s father, unexpectedly returns to town after being away for a long time, he offers Jordan a solution to her financial troubles. He proposes that she becomes his roommate, providing her with the money she needs.

Reluctantly, Jordan accepts Pike’s offer, knowing that living with him will be challenging. As they begin sharing a living space, an unexpected attraction develops between Jordan and Pike. Despite their significant age difference, they cannot deny their growing feelings for each other.

Jordan and Pike embark on a secret and forbidden relationship, struggling to keep their connection hidden from Cole. They grapple with their desires and the moral implications of their actions. Their bond is fueled by mutual respect and a genuine connection, leading them down a path they never anticipated.

Birthday Girl Review

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

If you are active on BookTok, you know how popular this book is there. You can’t escape everyone crazily recommending “Go read that Birthday Girl book” on there. Intrigued by the hype, I decided to give it a shot, even though age-gap romances aren’t typically my cup of tea.

With an open mind and a willingness to explore new genres, I dove into “Birthday Girl,” hoping to discover what all the fuss was about.

And let me tell you, this book left me pleasantly surprised. In my review of Birthday Girl, I’ll share my thoughts on this romance that explores the forbidden relationship between a girl and her boyfriend’s dad. Chef’s kisses

I must admit, age-gap romances have never been my cup of tea. However, due to the overwhelming hype surrounding Birthday Girl, I found myself intrigued and decided to give it a chance.

As someone who enjoys exploring different genres and keeping an open mind, I was hopeful that this book might be the one to change my perspective. While it didn’t completely convert me into an age-gap romance enthusiast, Birthday Girl managed to captivate me with its unique storyline and unexpected dynamics.

The story revolves around an unconventional relationship between a young woman and her boyfriend’s father. Initially, the premise made me slightly hesitant, as I wasn’t sure how the author would navigate the complexities of such a delicate situation.

To my surprise, Penelope Douglass skillfully crafted a narrative that delved into the age gap trope while maintaining a healthy and respectful dynamic between the characters.

What impressed me the most was the author’s ability to explore the emotions and challenges faced by the protagonists, while also highlighting the genuine connection they developed.

Despite the unconventional circumstances and the potential for conflict, the story managed to convey a sense of authenticity and believability. The characters were portrayed with depth and complexity, making their journey all the more compelling.

While Birthday Girl didn’t completely change my stance on age-gap romances, it did provide me with a better understanding of the appeal of this particular trope.

The exploration of forbidden love, the thrill of the forbidden, and the tension between societal norms and personal desires added an intriguing layer to the story. I appreciated how the author handled the subject matter with sensitivity and nuance, making it more than just a cliché or taboo.

The writing style was engaging and flowed smoothly, keeping me invested in the story from beginning to end. Penelope Douglass managed to balance the emotional depth with moments of light-heartedness, creating a well-rounded reading experience.

While this book might not be for everyone, I can certainly see why it has garnered a loyal following among fans of the age-gap romance genre.

In conclusion, Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglass provided me with a thought-provoking reading experience. While it didn’t convert me into a die-hard fan of age-gap romances, it successfully challenged my preconceptions and allowed me to appreciate the appeal of the trope.

I was impressed by the author’s ability to portray a healthy dynamic between the characters, despite their unique circumstances. If you’re someone who enjoys exploring unconventional romances and can appreciate the complexities of forbidden love, Birthday Girl might just be the book for you.
