“All About Reading” Tag

Shoutout to Books-and-Dachshunds for tagging me in this tag! Thank you so much!

What do you look for most when you pick up a book?
A) A beautiful writing style B) A character driven story C) A plot driven story

I feel like a book can have a beautiful writing style, but still extremely boring, bland, and mediocre, so that’s definitely out. It really depends on the book. I think I’ll have to go with plot driven story. I will still very much prefer the relationship/romance to be another main factor on the side, but I enjoy a plot driven story better because I just feel like having more external conflict (doesn’t mean no internal conflict) would make a more…adventurous book. I don’t know, it’s just my feeling (which I’m having a hard time explaining right now.

What are your pet peeves in books?

Hold on, let me get my list –

*Clears throat*

  • Instant love
  • When the protagonists spares the the villain and does the “no, he’s not worth it” thing (oh my god I seriously hate it with a BURNING passion)
  • Follow up on that last one, they spare this villain and then this action immediately bite them back because the villain literally went back and did the exact thing WHEN I EXPLICITLY WARNED THEM this would happen and THEY DIDN’T LISTEN
  • Because of that, this exact villain becomes the villain for the three out of five books of the series

If you could print one quote on your wall, which one would it be?

Damn, this is a hard one. “Stop eating”? *painful laughter*

Seriously though, probably “Work hard and be kind and amazing things will happen”, Conan O’Brien.

Which genre would you like to explore more?

Um, this is hard one. The genre doesn’t really matter (expect for non-fiction books), as long as they’re more adult books. Specifically the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness.

Was there ever a movie adaptation you liked better than the book?

If one of your favorite books would be adapted or get a new adaptation, which book would it be and which role would you like to play?

Definitely Ia from Ignite the Stars. I really love her character, but mostly because she’s the only young Asian female book character I can think of right now.

A hyped book you wouldn’t recommend at all?

The Girl of Fire and Thorns. I really liked and appreciated how for once, the heroine is not skinny model-style-pretty like the other characters. But I just didn’t enjoy the book as much. I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it, which was a huge shame because this book had been recommended to me for so long. Oh well, if I am trapped on a island no absolute no other books to read, I’ll give it a try again (see if I’ll change my mind). But for now…this was a disappointing book for me.

A book that highly influenced your life and way of thinking?

I was actually just thinking about this question the other day, and it is definitely the Percy Jackson books. I’ve always been reading, long before I ever came across the Percy Jackson books. But it is this series that truly introduced me to novels, and to this day, because of my experience with this series, Fantasy is still my all time favorite genre.

Don’t even get me started on how I am now an official walking-and-talking Roman/Greek mythology thesaurus thanks to this series.

Are you a fan of re-reading books, do you do it often?

Hell yeah!

Which book title could easily be the title of your life?

Ugh…oh my god I’m actually completely blank on this one, I am so sorry.

*I’m not kidding I had been thinking an answer for this question for so long I’m clueless*

Which book should be required reading for everyone?

Honestly? I don’t think any book should be forced to anyone. I’m not a big fan of this idea in general.

The Sunshine Blogger Award 2

Thank you so much Anna @ Adventures With a Book Nerd for nominating me!

This is the second time I received this award, and I could not be more thrilled. Also sorry that it took me so long to post this, life had been so busy XD.

  1. Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog

If you could only read books by one author for the rest of your life, which author would you choose and why?

Okay, this question is just horrible and cruel 😂. By choosing only one author, that means my book choices would be severely limited (how DARE you). But I guess, either Elise Kova or Rachel E. Carter.

What is your favorite book cover, and why is it your favorite?

I’m not kidding when I say I literally do not judge a book by its cover. If this book has fricking NO cover but its story is still amazing, it’s worth it. It’s also because of this, this question took a really, really long time to try and find an answer. I guess…Caraval. I mean, Fantasy usually really do have the most beautiful covers in general, and Caraval is no exception. (But seriously, that cover is gorgeous).

Sweet or savory?

Um…sweet. Yeah, sweet.

What is one book to movie adaptation that you are excited for?

It’s not really movie adaptation, but I’m SO excited for the Throne of Glass (by Sarah J. Maas) TV adaptation.

What are three tips you have for new bloggers?

1. Give it time. Just focus on making excellent content, don’t worry about the followers, views, etc so much in the beginning.

2. Make blogger friends! They can really, really help you ( I really wish I knew this earlier). And join blogger groups where experienced (and fellow new bloggers) help each other, and can share posts.

3. This might be a stupid tip, but I wish I realized it sooner. Personalize your questions in interviews. DO NOT use the same questions.

What was the last book you bought?

Oh my god, I just realized I’m been reading so many ARCs I’ve just realized I haven’t bought a book in so long (I get all the book I want for free XD). But the last book that was bought for me (by my dad for my birthday) is Caraval by Stephanie Barber.

What is your favorite season?

WINTER. Winter all the way❄.

Would you rather be a hero or villain? Why?

I feel like the villain so many times in my life because of how misunderstood I am, which is why I always root for the villain. But realistically, I’ll rather be the hero because let’s face it: we all want happy endings. Because villains do not deserve any happiness, no matter the reason. Right?

If you could have lunch with any book character, which one would you choose and why?

Oh my god! I will give my left pinkie for an opportunity like that. Percy Jackson would have to be my top choice.

What is one book that you were disappointed by?

Shadowsong (and Wintersong a little bit) by S. Jae-Jones. Storm Siren by Mary Weber, The Wicked We Have Done by Sarah Harian, The Orphan Queen series by Jodi Meadows, and An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Oh, and I loved The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel, by The Revolution of Ivy was such a disappointment (I don’t know why).

Aliens are circling the world and are threatening to blow it up. Luckily you have been chosen to convince them otherwise (congrats!). What do you say to the aliens to convince them not to blow us up?

We have really, really, really good food and movies. And may I introduce to you something called books.

My questions:

  • Which book to movie adaptation did you hate the most?
  • What book character superpower do you want (you can only chose one)?
  • Which book character would you want to be your husband/wife (you can only chose one)?
  • Would you rather have the ability to erase your memories of books as you wish so you can repeatedly re-read them, or the ability to turn back the clock when you bought a book you’re super disappointed in?
  • If you can only read one genre for the rest of your life what would it be?
  • If you can only enter the book world (of one book) what would it be?

i nominate…

Blogger Recognition Award 🏆

Thank you so much to Ash @ For the Love of Books for nominating me!

The Rules for the Award:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  5. Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  6. Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them & provide the link to the post you created.

Give a brief story of how your blog started:

My blog actually started with my Kindle, Andrick. It’s because of her that I start shopping on Amazon for books, and it’s because of that I started looking at Amazon reviews, and that introduced me to the world of reviews.

Through the reviews, I got the idea of creating a blog where I can post my reviews and share my thoughts (and love) of books. I did this also because I had always been alone because I have no one to talk to my books with. When I created The Reading Life, I generally didn’t expect it last a week.

But then one thing led to another, I start befriending and interviewing authors, ARCs started coming in, and before I know it, I’m here.

And I am not complaining.

Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers:

  • Personalize and spend time to come up with different questions every time you interview someone. Do not interview them with the same questions. Actually ask them the questions you want to ask.
  • Take your time. Also, the trick of getting comments is commenting on other blogs with the link of the post you want people to comment.

Again, shout out to Ash, thank you so much for nominating me.

And my nominees are:

Evelina @ Avalinah Books

Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

Alex @ Harlow + Willow

Strevs @ Loving Thyself

Adriana @ Adriana Rocca Candidly

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag, 2017

I’ve been tagged by the amazing Avalinah @ Avalinah’s Books. Thank you so much for tagging me! You guys should totally check out her blog, it’s gorgeous and just absolutely amazing.

So on to the questions

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

Oh man. I think I discovered most of my current favorite series last year…so this wold be a tough question for this year. I know it’s not a single answer (and it’s supposed to), but I guess it’ll be A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sara J. Maas and Angelfall by Susan Ee. Both are the newest edition this year to my list of all-time favorite series.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sara J. Maas. Probably one of the few good things that happened to me in 2017 so far, and the only one out of two series added to my list of all-time-favorite series. Penryn and the End of Days by Susan Ee is runner-up.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan, Windwitch by Susan Dennard, Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves, When It’s Real by Erin Watt, and The Alchemist of Loom by Elise Kova.

Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2017?

Fallen Heir by Erin Watt, Spirit Witch by Helen Harper.

Biggest Disappointment?

Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick, Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins (less than Hush Hush), Throne of Glass (kind of, yeah). Unearthly by Cynthia Hand (not that bad, didn’t hate it as much because I didn’t buy it). Also The Iron King by Julie Kagawa. This is probably the book I feel betrayed most by because so many people suggested it to me. One of them was actually one of my favorite authors. But I ended right really didn’t like the heroine as a character, I found her bratty and kind of whinny. But if I have time, I might re-read this book just to give it a second chance (and to get back my money’s worth).

Biggest Suprise?

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. So much better than I expected!

Favorite New Author?

Jennifer L. Armentrout. Her books is not winning book of the year award anytime soon, but she has become my go-to author if I’m ever looking for a guilty read. And Susan Ee probably for Angelfall (if that woman would just start writing books for god’s sake…-_-)

Newest Fictional Crush?

Rhysand from ACOTAR!!! Holy crap Rhysand all the way man. And Warner from Shatter Me. Beside from those two, Daemon from Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Raffe from Angelfall, and Roth from The Dark Elements also by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Newest Favorite Character?

Rhysand from ACOTAR, Penryn from Angelfall, Layla from The Dark Elements,

Book That Made You Cry?

This actually took a while to remember, because I know I’ve read a few books this year that had me crying, but I suddenly can’t remember. I know one of them are The Young Elites by Marie Lu, I think Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi got me tearing up (kind of), At the end of A Court of Mist and Fury I was so scared and mad I think I cried a little (if you read the book you’ll know what I’m talking about), and…yeah so far those are the only ones I can remember.

Book That Made You Happy?

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne! Oh my god I swear I’ve never laughed so hard or so much in my life while reading a book.

Favorite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

First off, there are no such thing as ‘Favorite Book To Movie Adaptation’ for a bookworm, secondly, I didn’t watch any because why in the world would I torture myself that way.

Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

Yeah, I had to dig around my blog for that one. Probably The Magician’s Workshop by Christopher Hensen and J.R Fehr and Finding Kyler by Siobhan Davis.

Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?

This question is really not meant for me unfortunately. I don’t live in the US (or Canada, the west in general) so I used a Kindle for most of my readings.

What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

Just check out my mile-long TBR list 😉

And…time for the tagging! Below are the lists of Booktuber and book blogger whom I’m tagging for the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2017:
