Quotey Tuesday #3: I Will Not Be Shattered

Quotey Tuesday is a weekly meme where we share our favorite quote from the book we’re reading that week!

“I spent my life folded between the pages of books. In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”

-Juliette, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Anyone who truly loves to read would relate to this quote…and the truth that holds in this quote is also slightly…disturbing.

Now, many of us have friends. Just because we love reading doesn’t mean we have suffered like Juliette did in Shatter Me. But all of us, deep down, know that in a way, all readers use books to fill the loneliness. And in a way, we will always choose literature over reality.
