This article will take you on an exciting literary tour featuring the who did this to you trope! The “Who did this to you?” trope is a prevalent narrative device frequently used in romance novels. It entails one character showing interest or concern about the psychological or physical injuries of another character, usually to strengthen their bond or promote character development.
The wounded character opens up about their past and the other character offers consolation and support, creating an opportunity for the characters to have emotional intimacy. It can arouse empathy and a sense of vulnerability in the reader, enabling them to see the characters’ relationship develop and heal.
