I am very, very happy to say that this book started strong, and is still going strong.
The first book of this series (Heir of Thunder) is actually one of the very first books I’ve ever received as an ARC. During that time, it was like, literally the only book I truly REALLY liked. It still is, even to this day after receiving a lot more ARCs. So imagine how thrilled I was after I received another email from Karissa Laurel, asking me to read and review the sequel. I almost dropped my laptop trying to reply to her.
The book continues on the adventure of our oh-dear-loved-bad-ass heroine, Evelyn Stormbourne, after her close escape to her mortal enemy, Le Poing Ferme. Long story short, this is a story about a princess/heir who is kicked out of her country, and now is trying to get her throne back.
I am so happy to be able to say, that this book was just as fun to read as the first (at least for me), and the series is still going very strong.
The story in this book is not too slow paced (it’s quite moderate to fast, actually), but I do have to acknowledge that its progression for its biggest story arc is kind of slow. However, I do like this writing style because it’s because of how the author organized her pace like this that gives the book enough time for the author to more fully write and express the smaller story arcs in the individual books, while fully developing and connecting new characters to the reader.
Overall, I really liked this book! But I do have to say that at least to this point, the author is not giving us too much of a hint of how Evelyn is going to take back our kingdom, so I am curious how the author’s going to pull that off in the future installments, and whether or not if it’ll be a disappointment.
This book did not suffer from the second book syndrome, and I hope the next installment would also not let down the current positive progress of this series.
