A few things stood out to me while reading this, and one of the more impressive ones is how well it’s written, despite being a paranormal romance book that features vampires and hybrids. The character developments were well displayed and written out, and the story is organized with understandable dynamics along with original ideas.
In fact, I think I can just proclaim it here and now, this is officially the best paranormal book I’ve ever read. Seriously.
The reason this book exceeded my expectation so much is mainly because it is honestly just fantastically well written for a paranormal romance book. I’ve read a lot of books in this genre, and many of those books were barely average or just plain horrible. The authors claim their books are ‘romance’, but honestly, as a reader, it doesn’t really count. Romance genre by definition means: “A genre that primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an “emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending”. Those books have romances that don’t even count as romance because all of it is just filled with sexual puns or contexts, instead of the actual ‘relationships’ between the partners. And because the authors were so focused on making the ‘physical romances’ perfect, they completely forgot about the story, resulting it to be just plain, bland, and boring.
This book has a perfect balance. I remember reading the first few pages and I was just like, “damn, this book is really good”. The flow was the perfect, and the dialogues were able to represent each individual character’s tone, characteristics, and attitude perfectly. And it’s even easier to compare that from the constantly switching first person perspectives.
I especially like the idea of molding modern civilization with the fictional world the author built for us, along with the whole concept for ancient spells, species, etc.
Overall, this is a great book for its genre, and I strongly suggest it to all readers, especially paranormal romance fans to check it out. You won’t regret it!
