Unveiling the Creative Journey: An Exclusive Interview with Author Tijan

What is your favorite writing and reading genre?

I change all the time, probably why I write in different genres! I like new adult, young adult, mafia, contemporary, and paranormal!

Where and how did you get your idea for your books?

It always changes! Sometimes they come to me when I’m sleeping, driving through an intersection, or sometimes it happens as I’m writing. There’s no rhyme or reason, just random. 🙂

If a movie or TV show would be created for your books, which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead roles for you books?

Oh boy! I have no idea. I can’t even imagine happening, but it’d all depend on who was interested. Lol! I don’t usually have a person or actor in mind when I write characters. I like to let the readers keep their own people in mind, if that makes sense?!

When did you decide to become a writer?

It just kind of happened! I was vacationing at my family’s lake cabin and I had to get some story ideas out of my head, or I felt like I was going to go nuts. Once I started typing them out, it clicked with me and I knew that’s what I had to do (whether I got paid or not!)

How did you get your book published? How long did it take for you to get it published?

I just self-published! I still am. I wrote for maybe eight years before I finally published, but the whole act of pubbing doesn’t take a lot of time.

Do you ever get writer’s Block? If so, which book did you get the worst while writing?

Not really. I think sometimes a book needs to be reworked, or a person is just burned out, or if there is a wall–you just have to push through it. Whatever you write doesn’t have to be wonderful, but it helps get you going for the stuff that will be published.

What is the average time for you to write a book?

It all changes! Sometimes a month, sometimes three months. I have some books that are on the back burner that are taking years for me to finish. Lol!

For your own reading, do you prefer kindle or paperback books?

Kindle, but I love holding those paperbacks!

How are the covers made for you books?

I design them myself!

What advice would you give writer wannabes and future/young authors?

Just to write whatever you’d like to read! Finish the book first, make it the best you can make it, and then start worrying about editors/formatters etc. Form friendships with other authors because sometimes they’ll understand when no one else might!

What do you do during your free time, how do you relax?

I hang out with family, friends, and my dog! I’m obsessed lately with Suits, a television show, so I’ve been watching those episodes when I can!!
